Troubleshoot - iVerify Bad Request errors due to invalid NPI format

When running Instant VOBs in Dazos, you may encounter 'Bad Request Error' messages. This error commonly occurs when the system is configured with an incorrect NPI number

Before You Begin

You will need:

  • Access to your organization's valid 10-digit NPI number

  • Examples of failed Instant VOB requests

  • Contact with Dazos Support for system configuration updates

Steps to Resolve NPI Format Issues

  1. Verify the error pattern: Confirm that Bad Request errors are occurring across multiple insurance payers (such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, or Oscar Health)

  2. Contact Dazos Support: Open a support ticket with examples of the failed Instant VOB requests and specify which payers are affected

  3. Locate your valid NPI number: Find your organization's correct 10-digit NPI number. Valid NPIs are 10 digits long and typically begin with the number 1

  4. Check for EIN confusion: Ensure you're not accidentally using your EIN number instead of your NPI number, as these are different identification numbers

  5. Provide the correct NPI to support: Share your valid 10-digit NPI number with Dazos Support so they can update the system configuration

  6. Wait for configuration update: Dazos Support will coordinate with the clearinghouse to update your NPI configuration in the system

  7. Test the resolution: Once Support confirms the update is complete, test Instant VOB requests with the same patients that previously failed

Expected Result

After the NPI configuration is updated with the correct 10-digit format, Instant VOB requests should process successfully without Bad Request errors. You should be able to run VOBs across all previously affected insurance payers.

Common Errors and Quick Fixes

Error: "Bad Request" when submitting Instant VOBs

Cause: System configured with a 9-digit value instead of a valid 10-digit NPI

Solution: Verify your organization's correct 10-digit NPI and contact Dazos Support for a configuration update

Note: If you're unsure of your organization's NPI number, you can verify it in the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) registry.
