Overview
This guide explains what to do when the Mass Edit tool in Dazos CRM is blocked because a mandatory field — such as Date of Birth (DOB) — is required before the save will complete. Because fields like DOB are unique to each patient record, they cannot be filled in during a bulk edit, making it impossible to save without removing the mandatory requirement from the layout settings.
Symptom / Error
When attempting to use Mass Edit on Intake Opportunities (or another module), the system prompts you to enter a value for a field such as Date of Birth before it will allow you to save. Because this field is unique per record, you cannot provide a single value for all selected records, and the mass edit cannot be completed.
Mass Edit modal appears as expected after clicking the yellow pencil icon
System requires a value for a mandatory field (e.g., Date of Birth) before saving
The mandatory field is unique per patient — a single bulk value cannot be applied
Clicking Save without filling in the field is not permitted, blocking the entire mass edit action
⚠️ Note: This is not expected behavior for mass edit. The mandatory field configuration is preventing the save — it is not related to how mass edit overwrites picklist values.
Cause
The affected field (e.g., Date of Birth) has been configured as mandatory in the module's layout settings. When Mass Edit attempts to save changes across multiple records, the system enforces this mandatory requirement for every record in the selection. Since a field like DOB is unique per patient, it is impossible to satisfy this requirement in bulk, causing the save to be blocked.
Solution
To resolve this issue, an administrator needs to remove the mandatory requirement from the affected field in the module's layout settings. This allows Mass Edit to proceed without requiring that field to be filled in for every record.
💡 Tip: You will need administrator access to CRM Settings to complete these steps. If you do not have admin access, contact your system administrator or Dazos Support.
Navigate to Settings → CRM Settings → Module Management → Module Layouts & Fields.
Select the module where the mass edit is being blocked (e.g., Intake Opportunities).
Locate the field that is causing the block (e.g., Date of Birth).
Open the field's settings and remove the mandatory (required) flag from the field configuration.
Save your layout changes.
Return to your list view and attempt the Mass Edit again. The system should now allow you to save without requiring a value for that field.
Verification / Expected Result
After removing the mandatory requirement from the field, Mass Edit should complete successfully without prompting you to enter a value for that field. Your selected records will be updated with the changes you specified, and a confirmation will appear indicating the number of records updated.
✅ Best Practice: Only mark fields as mandatory if they are required in all data entry contexts, including bulk edits. Fields that are unique per record (such as Date of Birth) may be better enforced as required at the individual record level rather than through global mandatory settings.
Escalation
Contact Dazos Support if:
You do not have administrator access to modify layout settings
The mandatory requirement has been removed but Mass Edit is still blocked
You are unsure which field is causing the block
The issue affects multiple modules or fields
