How to Make Fields Editable for Portal Users on the Customer Portal (CRM)

Learn how to make fields editable for portal users on the Dazos CRM Customer Portal. Follow these steps to configure Read & Write permissions so parents and guardians can update specific fields.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Admin access to Dazos CRM Settings

  • A list of the fields you want portal users (e.g., parents/guardians) to be able to edit on the Customer Portal

Steps

  1. Navigate to Customer Portal Settings: In Dazos CRM, go to Settings → CRM Settings → Customer Portal → Pre Assessments → Fields & Privileges.

  2. Locate the field you want to make editable: Find the field in the list that you would like portal users to be able to edit.

  3. Set the field permission to Read & Write: Change the field's permission setting to Read & Write. Fields that are not set to Read & Write will appear on the portal without a pencil (edit) icon, meaning portal users will not be able to edit them.

  4. Save your changes: Save the updated field permissions.

  5. Repeat for any additional fields: Repeat steps 2–4 for every field that should be editable by portal users.

Result

After completing these steps, fields set to Read & Write will display a pencil (edit) icon on the Customer Portal edit page, allowing parents, guardians, or other portal users to edit those fields. Fields that are not marked as Read & Write will remain visible but locked — no edit icon will appear for those fields.

⚠️ Note: If a portal user does not see a pencil/edit icon next to a field, it means that field is not currently set to Read & Write under Fields & Privileges. Review the setting at CRM Settings → Customer Portal → Pre Assessments → Fields & Privileges to confirm the permission level for that field.
