Editing Dependency-Linked Fields from the List View (CRM)

Learn how to edit dependency-linked fields directly from any CRM List View. Discover how the Update Dependencies pop-up ensures conditional logic and required fields are handled seamlessly inline.

Overview

You can now edit fields that use conditional logic (Field Dependencies) directly from any List View. When you change one of these fields while editing a row, a quick Update Dependencies pop-up opens with your new value already selected, together with the related fields that depend on it — the same experience you already know from the record detail page, without leaving your list.

1. Before You Start

You will need:

  • Edit permission on the module you are working in (for example Intake Opportunities, Leads, or Contacts).

  • At least one Field Dependency rule configured for that module (set up by your administrator under Settings → Field Dependency).

  • Access requirements: the behavior applies automatically to every field that is part of an active Field Dependency rule — no extra setting or role is required. Modules without dependency rules are not affected in any way.

If you are unsure whether a field is dependency-linked, ask your CRM administrator, or simply change its value while editing a row — the pop-up appears only for dependency-linked fields.

2. Start Editing a Row

From the CRM, open any module's List View and edit a row the way you always do:

  • Double-click the row, or

  • Single-click it if your company uses the click-to-edit setting.

Every field becomes editable in place — including dependency-linked fields such as Sales Stage in the example below.

3. Change a Dependency-Linked Field

Pick a new value in the dependency-linked field. The Update Dependencies pop-up opens automatically:

Your new value, already selected

The pop-up starts from the choice you just made in the list — no need to pick it again.

Related fields

Fields that depend on your choice appear next to it. They show, hide, or become required in real time as you adjust the value.

Required markers ( * )

A red asterisk means the field must be filled before you can save.

💡 Tip: You can still change your mind inside the pop-up — pick a different value and the related fields adjust instantly, exactly like on the record detail page.

4. Save or Cancel the Pop-up

Action

Save

Your value and the related fields are saved to the record. The pop-up closes and the row in the list updates immediately — you'll see a green Success message.

Cancel / ✕

Nothing is saved. If you had made changes, the CRM asks "Changes will be lost — do you wish to proceed?" first. After confirming, the field in the list returns to its previous value.

⚠️ Important: If a required related field is left empty, the pop-up will not save — the missing field is highlighted so you can fill it in and try again.

5. Finish and Save the Row

After the pop-up closes, the row is still in edit mode. Continue editing any other fields, then:

  1. Click the green to save the rest of the row, or

  2. Click the red to discard the remaining changes — the values you saved through the pop-up are already stored and stay saved.

💡 Tip: If your list is filtered (for example, showing only one Sales Stage), a record whose value no longer matches the filter disappears from the list after saving — that is expected.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does a pop-up open for some fields but not others?

Only fields that are part of a Field Dependency rule open the pop-up. All other fields save directly from the row, as before.

Q: I saved the pop-up, but I can't see the related field's new value in my list.

The value is saved on the record — the column just isn't part of your list layout. Add it via Customize → list columns, or open the record's detail page to see it.

Q: What happens if I press Enter while typing in a dependency-linked text field?

The rest of the row saves first, and the pop-up then opens with the value you typed so the related fields can be completed. Your typed value is never lost and never skips the dependency check.

Q: Can I turn this off and edit these fields directly in the row?

No — the pop-up is what keeps dependent required fields from being skipped. Editing these fields any other way (detail page, Kanban board) uses the same pop-up.

Q: Does this change anything for fields without dependencies?

No. Regular fields edit and save exactly as they always have.

Q: I edited several fields, then changed the dependency-linked one. Are my other edits lost?

No — they stay pending in the row editor. Save the row with the green after the pop-up closes and everything is stored.

Need Help?

If you run into issues:

  1. Refresh the page and try the edit again — the pop-up should open every time you change a dependency-linked field.

  2. Check with your administrator that the Field Dependency rule for the module is active.

  3. Contact Dazos support and reference CRM-3492.
