iCampaign Drip Campaign Restart Behavior and Limitations (iCampaign)

Drip campaigns in iCampaign cannot restart internally. Behavioral triggers such as opens or clicks can only be used to add additional steps within the same drip — they cannot reset or restart the sequence from the beginning.

To simulate a drip restart (for example, re-checking a waitlist every 28 days), you must set up a loop between a drip campaign and a workflow. The drip completes its steps, a workflow detects the subscriber's response, and then the workflow re-sends the campaign and updates CRM fields as needed.

Important: You cannot select a Drip Campaign as an action type directly within a workflow in the same way you would other campaign types. The loop described below is the supported method for achieving restart behavior.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • An iCampaign account with access to Drip Campaigns and Workflows

  • A drip campaign already created (or ready to create) that contains your waitlist or re-enrollment messaging

  • A method to capture the subscriber's "yes" response — either a tagged link in an email button or a field update triggered by an SMS reply

Steps

  1. Create your waitlist drip campaign: Build a drip campaign that includes a waiting period (for example, 28 days) followed by a message asking the subscriber if they want to remain on the waitlist. This can be sent via email, SMS, or both.

  2. Capture the "Yes" response: Set up a way to record when a subscriber responds positively:

    • Email: Add a button or link in the email that applies a tag to the subscriber when clicked (for example, a tag named Waitlist_Yes).

    • SMS: Configure your SMS reply handling to update a subscriber field or apply a tag when the subscriber texts back "Yes".

  3. Create a workflow: Go to Workflows and create a new workflow. Set the trigger to When a subscriber is updated so the workflow fires when the tag or field is applied.

  4. Add a condition: Add a condition to the workflow that checks for the "yes" indicator — for example, Tag equals Waitlist_Yes, or a specific field equals Yes. This ensures the workflow only fires for subscribers who responded positively.

  5. Add workflow actions: Under Actions, configure the following:

    • Re-send the drip campaign to start the 28-day sequence again for the subscriber.

    • Update CRM fields as needed (for example, setting Waitlist_Status to Active or recording the date of re-enrollment).

  6. Enable the workflow: Activate the workflow so it runs automatically whenever a qualifying subscriber update is detected.

Result

After completing these steps, you will have a continuous loop that simulates a drip restart:

Drip runs → subscriber responds "Yes" → tag or field is updated → workflow detects the update → workflow re-sends the drip campaign and updates CRM fields → drip runs again.

This loop repeats each time the subscriber responds positively, allowing you to re-engage waitlisted contacts on a recurring schedule (such as every 28 days) without any manual intervention.
