Add Custom Links to the Main Menu User Guide (CRM)

You can now add custom links to external sites — like an EMR portal, billing system, or compliance tool — directly into the CRM's left navigation. Each link can be named, positioned anywhere in the menu, and set to open in a new or same tab.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

1. Before You Start

You will need: An administrator account for the CRM. Custom links are configured from the CRM Settings area, which only administrators can open.

Access requirements: Once a link is added, it is shown in the left navigation menu for all users of your CRM. Custom links are not restricted by role.

If you don't see the Main Menu option under Settings, contact Dazos support to confirm your account has administrator access.

2. Open Main Menu Settings

From the CRM, navigate to Settings → CRM Settings → Configuration → Main Menu. The page has two halves:

Left side — the current menu, listed top to bottom in the order it appears in the sidebar. Right side — forms for adding to the menu, including the new Add Custom Link form.

3. Add a Custom Link

In the Add Custom Link form on the right, fill in the details for your link.

Name

The label shown in the menu.

Patient Portal

URL

The full web address the link opens. Must begin with http:// or https:// .

Open in

new tab

On (default): the link opens in a new browser tab, keeping your CRM open. Off: the link opens in the same tab.

On

Then click Add Custom Link. Your link is saved and immediately appears at the bottom of the menu list and in the left sidebar.

Tip: Only web addresses starting with http:// or https:// are accepted. If you paste anything else, the link will not be saved — re-check the address and try again.

4. Your Link in the Sidebar

Your custom link now appears in the left navigation menu, marked with an "open in new" icon so users know it leads to an outside site.

Clicking the link opens your chosen web address. If Open in new tab was left on, it opens in a new browser tab so the user's place in the CRM is preserved.

5. Edit, Reorder, or Remove a Link

All of these are done from the menu list on the left side of the Main Menu settings page.

Action

How

Rename / change URL /

change tab behavior

Click the red pencil icon on the link, edit the fields, then click the check (✓) button to save.

Reorder

Drag the link up or down in the list (you can also drag it into a group). The new position saves automatically.

Remove

Click the ✕ icon on the right of the link.

When you click the pencil, the link opens an inline editor with its name, its URL, and the Open in new tab toggle:

Tip: Turning the Open in new tab toggle off and saving makes that link open in the same browser tab instead of a new one.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can see the custom links I add? Every user of your CRM sees them in the left navigation menu. They are not limited by role or permission.

Q: Can I make a link open in the same tab instead of a new one? Yes. Turn off the Open in new tab toggle — either when adding the link, or later by editing it with the pencil icon.

Q: What web addresses are allowed? Only addresses that start with http:// or https:// . Other types of links are rejected for security reasons and will not be saved.

Q: How do I move a custom link higher up the menu? Open Main Menu settings and drag the link to the position you want in the list on the left. The order saves on its own.

Q: How do I rename a link or fix its address? Click the red pencil icon on the link, change the name and/or URL, and click the check (✓) button.

Q: How do I delete a custom link? Click the ✕ icon next to the link in the Main Menu list. It is removed from the menu right away.

Need Help?

If you run into issues:

1. Confirm you opened Settings → CRM Settings → Configuration → Main Menu as an administrator.

2. Re-check that the URL begins with http:// or https:// if a link won't save.
