When you add a custom link (for example to a patient portal or a billing system) or a custom parent menu group in Main Menu Settings, an Icon picker lets you search the CRM's icon library and choose the picture that appears next to the item, so custom entries look like the built in ones.

1. Before You Start
You will need:
A CRM administrator account. Main Menu Settings is only available to administrators.
For a custom link: the web address you want the menu item to open (it must start with http:// or https:// ).
Access requirements: Every administrator who can open Settings → CRM Settings → Configuration → Main Menu sees the Icon picker. No extra setting needs to be switched on. All users then see the chosen icons in their left menu; they do not need any new permission.
If you do not see the Icon button on the Main Menu Settings page, your CRM has not received this update yet. Contact Dazos support and mention CRM-3883.
2. Open Main Menu Settings
From the CRM, navigate to Settings → CRM Settings → Configuration → Main Menu. The page has two halves:
Area | What it is for |
Left: the menu list | Every item in the left menu, in order. Drag to reorder, click the red pencil to edit an item, click the X to remove it. Each row now shows its icon in front of the name. |
Right: the forms | Save Parent Menu adds a group that can hold other items. Save Menu adds a CRM module page. Add Custom Link adds a link to an outside web address. The parent-menu and custom-link forms now carry an Icon field. |
3. Add a Custom Link with an Icon
Use the Add Custom Link form on the right. The Icon field sits just above the Add Custom Link button and starts as Default, which is the standard link icon.
Field | Description | Example |
Link Name | The text shown in the left menu. | Patient Portal |
URL | The web address the item opens. Only http and https addresses are accepted. | |
Open in new tab | On: the address opens in a new browser tab. Off: it opens in the same tab. | On |
Icon | The picture shown next to the name in the left menu. Leave it on Default to keep the standard link icon. | hospital |
1. Fill in Link Name and URL, and set Open in new tab as you prefer.
2. Click the Icon button. The icon library opens under the button with a search box at the top.
3. Type a word in the search box. You can search by the icon's name or by what it depicts; for example medical finds the hospital, stethoscope, syringe and ambulance icons, and user finds the people icons. The list narrows as you type.
4. Clickthe iconyouwant. The listclosesandtheIconbuttonnowpreviewsyourchoice andshows itsname.
5. Click Add Custom Link. The page reloads; the new link appears in the menu list and in the left menu with your icon.
Tip: If your search finds nothing, the picker shows "No icons found. Try a different search term." and stays open, so you can simply keep typing. Press Escape, or click anywhere outside the list, to close it without choosing.
4. Add a Parent Menu Group with an Icon
A parent menu is a group heading in the left menu that other items can be dragged into. Use the Parent Menu Label form at the top right.
1. Type the group's name in Parent Menu Label.
2. Click the Icon button and choose an icon exactly as described above. For a group, Default means the standard group icon (a puzzle piece).
3. Click Save Parent Menu. The group appears in the menu list with its icon. It appears in the left menu once you drag at least one item into it.
5. Where the Icon Appears
The icon shows in two places:
The left menu, next to the item's name, for every user of your CRM.
The menu list on the Main Menu Settings page, in front of the item's name, so you can see at a glance which icon each item uses.
Important: Items placed inside a group keep the small dot marker of the left-menu design instead of an icon. Their icon still shows in the menu list, and it reappears in the left menu if you drag the item back to the top level.
6. Change or Remove an Icon Later
1. In the menu list, click the red pencil next to the custom link or group. The row opens for editing and its Icon button shows the current choice.
2. Click the Icon button, search, and pick another icon. To go back to the standard icon, choose Default (standard icon for this item) at the top of the list.
3. Click the blue check mark to save. The left menu updates as soon as the page reloads. Click the blue X to cancel without saving.
Removing an item with the X removes its icon with it; nothing is left behind.
7. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to choose an icon? No. The icon is optional. A link saved without a choice shows the standard link icon, and a group shows the standard group icon, exactly as before this update.
Q: What happens to the custom links and groups we created before this update? Nothing changes for them. They keep the icons they have today until you edit them and pick a new one.
Q: Can two items use the same icon? Yes. There is no limit on how many items share an icon.
Q: Can I pick any icon on the internet, or upload my own? No. The picker offers a curated set of about two hundred icons from the CRM's own icon library, so custom items always match the look of the built-in menu. If an icon you need is missing, ask Dazos support to consider adding it to the set.
Q: Can I change the icon's colour? No. Icons take the colour of the menu text and highlight, so they always match your CRM's theme, including dark mode.
Q: Why does a link inside a group show a dot instead of my icon in the left menu? That is the design of the left menu: items inside a group are marked with a dot. The icon you chose is kept, shows in the menu list, and appears in the left menu whenever the item is at the top level.
Q: Do other users need to do anything to see the new icons? No. Icons appear for everyone the next time they load a page.
Need Help?
If you run into issues:

2. If the left menu still shows the old icon, sign out and back in, or clear your browser cache, then check again.
