Contacts Lose Referral Source Field After Merging Referral Source Records (CRM)
Overview
This article explains what happens to contacts and activities when two Referral Source records are merged in Dazos CRM, and what to do if contacts lose their Referral Source field value after a merge.
Symptom
After merging two Referral Source records, contacts that were linked to the non-parent (merged-away) record show a blank Referral Source field. The contacts themselves are not deleted — only the Referral Source field value is lost.
Contacts linked to the parent record retain their Referral Source value as expected.
Only contacts on the non-parent (merged-away) side are affected.
Cause
This was a confirmed bug in the merge logic for Referral Source records. When two Referral Source records were merged, the system did not correctly re-link contacts from the non-parent record to the surviving parent record — leaving their Referral Source field blank.
Current Status
✅ This bug has been fixed. Contacts linked to the non-parent record should now correctly retain their Referral Source value and be re-linked to the surviving parent record after a merge.

What Happens to Activities During a Merge?
Activities (tasks and events) from both the parent and non-parent records carry over to the surviving parent record after a merge. No activity data is lost during the merge process.
Expected Behavior After a Merge
All contacts previously linked to either Referral Source record should be re-linked to the surviving parent record.
The Referral Source field on those contacts should display the parent record's name — not blank.
All activities from both records should appear on the parent record.
