Overview
This guide explains what to do when users can view a dashboard but cannot add or modify widgets. This is a common issue caused by a separate permission layer called Dashboard Role Settings, which controls widget editing access independently from general role permissions.
If all users at your organization suddenly cannot edit dashboard widgets — even though they could before — the most likely cause is that no roles are assigned to that dashboard in Dashboard Role Settings.
Symptom
Users click Edit Dashboard but cannot add or modify widgets — nothing happens.
The issue affects all users, not just one person.
Clearing browser cache, logging out, and logging back in does not resolve the issue.
Users can still view the dashboard and its data normally.
Cause
Dashboard widget editing is controlled by Dashboard Role Settings — a separate configuration layer from general role permissions. When no roles are assigned to a dashboard in Dashboard Role Settings, all users can view the dashboard but no one can edit its widgets, regardless of their general role privileges.
This is different from the role permission settings found under Settings → CRM Settings → User Management → Roles. Checking or updating permissions there will not resolve this issue.
⚠️ Note: This is not a bug, and nothing is randomly removed. If a dashboard was created without any roles assigned in Dashboard Role Settings, editing will be blocked for everyone from the start — or it may appear to stop working if role assignments are cleared.
Solution
An administrator must assign the appropriate role(s) to the dashboard using Dashboard Role Settings. Once a role is added, all users with that role can edit widgets immediately — no logout is required.
Log in to your Dazos CRM instance as an administrator.
Navigate to Settings → User Management → Dashboard Role Settings.
Locate the dashboard that users cannot edit and click Edit.
Add the role(s) that should have edit access to this dashboard.
Click Save.
Have an affected user test by opening the dashboard and attempting to add or edit a widget.
✅ Expected Result: Users with the assigned role can immediately add and modify dashboard widgets without needing to log out and back in.
Important: Two Separate Permission Layers
It's important to understand that dashboard access in Dazos CRM is controlled by two distinct settings:
Setting | Location | Controls |
Role Privileges | Settings → CRM Settings → User Management → Roles → Edit Role Options → Assign Privileges Directly to Role | General CRM access and module-level permissions for a role |
Dashboard Role Settings | Settings → User Management → Dashboard Role Settings | Which roles can edit widgets on a specific dashboard |
💡 Tip: If a dashboard has no roles assigned in Dashboard Role Settings, everyone can view it but no one can edit its widgets. This applies even if general dashboard permissions are correctly configured in the role editor.
