Troubleshooting 'Access Denied' on Module Builder (CRM)

Overview

This guide helps you resolve an 'Access Denied' error when a user tries to open Module Builder in Dazos CRM. It also clarifies the difference between a user's Role and their Profile permissions, which is a common source of confusion when granting Module Builder access.

Symptom

A user clicks on Module Builder in the CRM and sees an 'Access Denied' page, even though they appear to have admin-level access.

You may also notice that there is no 'Module Builder' checkbox visible on the Administrator profile permissions page. This is expected — see the explanation below.

Understanding Role vs. Profile Permissions

Module Builder access is controlled by the user's Role, not by a checkbox in their Profile permissions. This is why you will not find a 'Module Builder' toggle on the Administrator profile page — it simply does not exist there.

  • Role — determines high-level feature access, including Module Builder. Only users with the role Admin, Executive, or Director can access Module Builder.

  • Profile — controls field-level and module-level visibility within the CRM, but does not govern Module Builder access.

⚠️ Important: A user may have an 'Administrator' profile assigned and still be denied access to Module Builder if their Role is not set to Admin, Executive, or Director.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Sign in to Dazos CRM as an Administrator, Executive, or Director.

  2. Go to Settings → Users.

  3. Locate the affected user and click the Edit (pencil) icon next to their name.

  4. In the user's profile, check the Role field. Confirm it is set to Admin, Executive, or Director. If it is set to anything else, update it accordingly.

  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

  6. Ask the user to fully log out of the CRM — not just close the browser tab — and then log back in. Permission changes require a fresh session to take effect.

💡 Tip: Only users who are themselves an Admin, Executive, or Director are authorized to make this role change on behalf of another user.

Verification / Expected Result

After the user logs back in, they should be able to navigate to Settings → CRM Settings → Module Management → Module Builder without seeing the 'Access Denied' page. Module Builder features will be available in their interface.

Troubleshooting / Common Errors

User still sees 'Access Denied' after logging back in

  • Confirm the role change was saved correctly — go back to the user's profile and verify the Role field shows Admin, Executive, or Director.

  • Ensure the user fully logged out, not just closed the browser tab.

  • Have the user clear their browser cache and cookies, then log back in and try again.

Cannot find a 'Module Builder' permission in the Profile permissions page

This is expected behavior. Module Builder access is not a profile-level permission. It is controlled exclusively by the user's Role. There is no checkbox to enable or disable it on the profile permissions page.
