Understanding 'Matrix' in KIPU: What It Means and How to Troubleshoot a Missing SUD Matrix (CRM)

Overview

A customer reports that a matrix — such as the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) matrix or Treatment History matrix — is missing from their assessments after being pushed from the PAA to KIPU. This may appear after a user returns from leave or following changes to assessment configuration.

This issue is not a CRM role or permissions problem. The term "matrix" is KIPU's terminology for table-style sections inside evaluation forms (e.g., Substance Use Disorder, Treatment History). When a matrix is missing, it means that table section in the KIPU evaluation form is not being populated or mapped correctly from the PAA.

Possible Causes

  • The SUD table section does not exist in the KIPU evaluation form

  • The PAA-to-KIPU field mapping does not include that table section

  • The evaluation form is not selected under the Send PAA Through Evaluation Form setting in the integration configuration

Solution

  1. Confirm the SUD table exists in the KIPU evaluation form. Log in to KIPU and open the evaluation form used for Pre-Admission assessments. Verify that the Substance Use Disorder table (matrix) section is present in the form's structure. If the section is missing from the KIPU form itself, it will need to be added there before mapping can work.

  2. Verify the PAA-to-KIPU field mapping includes the SUD table. In Dazos, navigate to Settings → CRM Settings → Integrations → EMR Settings → KIPU and review the field mapping configuration. Confirm that the fields corresponding to the SUD matrix in the KIPU evaluation form are mapped to the correct PAA fields in the CRM. If the SUD table is not included in the mapping, add the missing field mappings.

  3. Check that the correct evaluation form is selected under "Send PAA Through Evaluation Form." In the same KIPU integration settings area, confirm that the Send PAA Through Evaluation Form? toggle is enabled and that the correct evaluation form — the one containing the SUD matrix — is selected. If the wrong form is selected, or if no form is selected, the matrix data will not be sent to KIPU correctly.

  4. Test by submitting a PAA and reviewing the result in KIPU. After verifying the above, submit a test PAA and confirm that the SUD matrix section is now populated in the KIPU evaluation form.

Important: This Is Not a CRM Permissions Issue

A missing matrix in KIPU should not be diagnosed as a CRM role or permissions problem. Do not direct customers to check Settings → CRM Settings → User Management → Roles for this issue. The root cause is always related to the PAA-to-KIPU evaluation form mapping, not to user access levels in the CRM.

If the treatment history matrix is visible but the SUD matrix is not, this confirms the issue is specific to that table's mapping configuration in KIPU — not a permissions restriction affecting the user broadly.

Still Need Help?

If the SUD matrix remains missing after completing the steps above, contact Dazos Support. When reaching out, please provide:

  • The name of the affected patient or assessment

  • A screenshot or description of what is visible in KIPU versus what is expected

  • Confirmation of which evaluation form is currently selected under Send PAA Through Evaluation Form
