Insurance Discovery needs the patient's US state to search for their health insurance policies. The CRM now shows a required Patient State field automatically the moment you switch Insurance Discovery on — in Submit New Lead, in the Convert Lead window, and in the Add VOB window — pre-filled whenever the patient's state is already on file. You can no longer send a Discovery request without a valid US state, and a blocked request never uses any iVerify credits.

1. Before You Start
You will need:
iVerify enabled for your instance, with the Insurance Discovery option switched on (CRM Settings → iVerify Settings).
A role that is allowed to run iVerify.
Available iVerify credits (each Discovery search uses 10 credits, plus 1 credit per policy verified).
Access requirements: if the "Run Insurance Discovery" switch does not appear on these screens, Insurance Discovery is not enabled for your instance — contact Dazos support to enable it.
2. Submit New Lead
From the CRM, open Submit New Lead.
1. Switch Run Insurance Discovery on.
2. A required Patient State dropdown appears right below the switch, and the page scrolls to it. If you already typed a state elsewhere on the form, it is selected for you.
3. Pick the patient's state, then click Run Discovery and continue as usual.
If you click Run Discovery with no state selected, the request is stopped before anything is sent:
Tip: switching Insurance Discovery off hides the Patient State field again and brings back the payer fields — the form returns to exactly how it was.
3. Convert Lead
Open a lead and click Convert Lead. In the VOB section:
The State box is filled in automatically from the lead's own state when it is known (for example, a lead with state "Florida" shows FL ). You can still edit it.
When you switch Run Insurance Discovery on, the State field becomes required — it gains a red asterisk and the window scrolls to it.
Field | Description | Example |
State | The patient's US state, as a 2-letter code | FL |
Discovery will not run while the State box is empty, and the conversion cannot be completed with Discovery on until a valid state is provided.
4. Add VOB
Open + Add VOB from a lead or opportunity and choose VOB Type Instant VOB.
1. Switch Run Insurance Discovery on.
2. A required Patient State dropdown appears next to Practice Type, pre-filled from the patient's record when their state is on file.
3. Pick or confirm the state, then click Run Discovery.
Important: choosing a different Opportunity in the window refreshes the Patient State from that patient's record, and any earlier Discovery result is discarded so you never verify policies against the wrong patient.
5. US States Only
Insurance Discovery is a US-only service. The new Patient State dropdowns list US states and territories only. If a state value comes from elsewhere (for example a record that holds a Canadian province), the request is stopped with a clear message before anything is sent:
6. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does a blocked request use up my iVerify credits? No. Requests stopped for a missing or non-US state are blocked before anything is sent, so no credits are used.
Q: The patient's state was already on the record — do I have to enter it again? No. The field appears pre-filled with the value on file. You only need to confirm it, or change it if it is wrong.
Q: What happens if I switch Insurance Discovery off after filling the state? The Patient State field is hidden again and the form goes back to its normal behavior. Nothing you entered elsewhere is lost.
Q: Why can't I select a Canadian province? The Discovery service (pVerify) only covers US health insurance, so only US states and territories are accepted.
Q: I don't see the Run Insurance Discovery switch at all. Insurance Discovery is switched off for your instance. An administrator can enable it under CRM Settings → iVerify Settings, or contact Dazos support.
Q: I changed the patient's name, date of birth, or state after running Discovery — is my earlier result still used? The CRM notices the change. You are either asked to confirm the earlier selection or the result is cleared so Discovery runs fresh with the new details.
Need Help?
If you run into issues:
1. Check that Insurance Discovery is enabled and your iVerify credit balance is sufficient (CRM Settings → iVerify Settings).
2. Confirm the patient's state is a US state on the record, then try again. 3. Contact Dazos support with the exact message shown and reference CRM-3758.
