How to Run Contracts Independently of Companies in Dazos CRM (CRM)

Learn how to configure the Contracts module to function independently from Companies. This guide shows admins on regular CRM instances how to make the Company Name optional, hide the field, and remove related lists.

Who This Guide Is For

This guide is for CRM administrators on a regular CRM instance who want the option to use the Contracts module on its own, without every contract having to be tied to a Company/Contact. If you are happy with contracts always belonging to a company, you do not need to do anything—that remains the default behavior.

⚠️ Note: This option is available on regular CRM only. On Billing CRM, contracts always belong to a company and these settings are intentionally locked.

Background

Normally, when you create a contract, you are first asked to choose a Company (via the “Select Account For Contracts” pop-up), and the “Company Name” field is strictly required. Each company also shows its related contracts directly on the company page.

With this update, admins on regular CRM instances can choose to relax these rules so that Contracts works as an independent module. Nothing changes unless you make these changes yourself.

What you can now do:

  • Make the “Company Name” optional, so a contract can be saved without choosing a company (this also stops the “Select Account” pop-up from appearing).

  • Optionally hide the “Company Name” field entirely.

  • Optionally remove the “Contracts” list that appears on a Company’s page.

You can do any or all of these, in this order. Step 1 is required before Step 2.

Step 1: Make “Company Name” Optional

  1. Open Settings, then go to Module Layouts & Fields.

  2. Choose the Contracts module from the dropdown.

  3. Find the Company Name field and open its properties (click the edit/pencil icon on the field).

  4. Turn OFF the “Mandatory Field” switch.

  5. Click Save.

Result: Creating a contract no longer forces you to pick a company, and the “Select Account For Contracts” pop-up no longer appears. Clicking "Create" now opens the full contract form directly.

Step 2: Hide the “Company Name” Field (Optional)

Do this only if you want the field removed from the contract form entirely.

  1. Make sure you have completed Step 1 (the field must be optional first). While the field is still mandatory, the enable/disable switch stays locked.

  2. Open the Company Name field properties again.

  3. Switch Enable Field to No.

  4. Click Save.

Result: The “Company Name” field no longer appears on the contract form.

💡 Tip: If the “Enable Field” switch is greyed out, the field is still marked as mandatory. Go back to Step 1, make it optional, save, and then return here.

Step 3: Remove the Contracts List from the Company Page (Optional)

Do this if you no longer want contracts listed on a Company’s record.

  1. Open Settings, then Module Layouts & Fields.

  2. Choose the Contacts (Company) module.

  3. Open the Related Lists / Related Modules area.

  4. Find the Contracts related list and remove it.

Result: A company’s page will no longer show a Contracts section.

Expected Results

After making these changes, you will see:

  • New contracts can be created without selecting a company.

  • If you hid the Company Name field, it no longer appears on the contract form.

  • Contracts created without a company will show a blank in the “Company Name” column on the contracts list view and in the contract’s title. This is expected behavior when running contracts independently.

How to Revert These Changes

Each step is easily reversible from the exact same screens:

  • Turn Mandatory Field back ON to require a company again (this also brings back the “Select Account” pop-up on Create).

  • Switch Enable Field back to Yes to show the Company Name field again.

  • Re-add the Contracts related list on the Contacts (Company) module to show contracts on the company page again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will this affect existing contracts that already have a company? A: No. Existing links are kept. You are only changing what is required going forward and what is shown on the page.

Q: Does this change Billing CRM? A: No. On Billing CRM, the company link stays required and these settings remain strictly locked.

Q: Can I require a company again later? A: Yes! See the “How to Revert These Changes” section above. You can switch between the two modes at any time.
