Overview
In Dazos CRM, a '+' (quick add) button can appear on certain fields in edit view, allowing users to quickly add new values without leaving the record. However, this button is only available on picklist-type fields. Fields like Referral Company and Referring Contact are related module fields — not picklist fields — and therefore cannot have the '+' button added to them in their current form.
This article explains why the '+' button is not available on these fields, what would be required to enable it, and the consequences of making that change.
Key Concepts
'+' (Quick Add) Button: A button that appears on eligible fields in edit view, allowing users to quickly create and select a new value without navigating away from the record.
Picklist Field: A field type that presents a predefined list of selectable values. The '+' button is only supported on this field type.
Related Module Field: A field that links to records in another module (e.g., an Account or Contact record). Referral Company and Referring Contact are related module fields. The '+' button is not supported on this field type.
Field Type: The data type assigned to a field at the time of creation. Field types cannot be changed after a field has been created.
How It Works
The '+' quick add button is tied specifically to the picklist field type. Because Referral Company and Referring Contact are configured as related module fields — meaning they link to existing records in other modules — the '+' button cannot be added to them.
For the '+' button to appear on either field, the field would need to be a picklist. However, Dazos CRM doesn't allow converting an existing field to a different type. The following would be required:
You would need to delete the existing field.
You would need to create a new field from scratch as a picklist type.
This process has significant consequences that should be carefully considered before proceeding.
Important Notes
Field types cannot be changed after creation. Once a field is created, its type is permanent. To switch a field from a related module type to a picklist, the original field must be deleted and a brand new picklist field must be created in its place.
Deleting a field results in permanent data loss. Any data currently stored in the original field — such as existing Referral Company or Referring Contact values on records — will be permanently lost when the field is deleted. This data cannot be recovered after deletion.
A feature request can be submitted. If you would like the '+' button to be natively supported on related module fields like Referral Company and Referring Contact without requiring a field type change, contact Dazos Support to submit this as a feature request for the development team to consider.
