Troubleshooting Quick Create Toggle Not Working for Picklist Fields (CRM)

Symptom / Error

Users can still see the plus (+) icon and create new picklist values even when the Quick Create setting is turned OFF for a picklist field in the layout editor.

This commonly affects existing picklist fields like Lead Source, where:

  • The Quick Create toggle shows as OFF in the field configuration

  • The plus icon still appears next to the picklist on record forms

  • Users can still click the plus and add new values despite the setting

Cause

This appears to be a bug affecting existing (legacy) picklist fields where the Quick Create toggle setting is not properly respected by the system. The configuration may have persisted issues that prevent the OFF setting from taking effect.

New picklist fields with Quick Create disabled work correctly, but older fields may not respond to the toggle change.

Solution

Verification Steps (Confirm the Issue)

  1. Navigate to your module's Layout Editor (CRM Settings → Layout Editor → Leads).

  2. Locate the problematic picklist field and verify Quick Create is set to OFF

  3. Save any changes and refresh your browser

  4. Test on a record form - if the plus icon still appears, continue to the workaround below

Workaround for Legacy Fields

Since this affects existing fields with configuration persistence issues, the most reliable solution is:

  1. Create a new picklist field with the same values and Quick Create set to OFF

  2. Test the new field on a record form to confirm no plus icon appears

  3. Plan data migration from the old field to the new field (if historical data is important)

  4. Update your layouts to use the new field instead of the problematic one

  5. Remove the old field from layouts once migration is complete

⚠️ Important: This workaround is not ideal for fields with extensive historical data. Consider the impact before proceeding with field replacement.
