This makes it easy to preview how a campaign looks in a colleague's inbox or a personal account before you send the real thing. Sending a test never adds the recipient to your subscriber list.

6. Frequently Asked Questions
1. Before You Start
You will need:
A campaign you are creating or editing, taken through to the final Preview & Send step.
Any valid email address where you want to receive the test (for example, your own inbox or a teammate's).
Access requirements: Anyone who can create, edit, and preview campaigns can send a test email. No extra permission or configuration is required. Your workspace must already have a working email sender set up — the same one your real campaigns use.
If you reach the Preview & Send step but do not see a Test Email panel, your workspace email sending may not be fully configured yet. Contact Dazos support to enable it for your instance.
2. Open the Test Email Panel
From the ICD, open Campaigns, choose the campaign you want to preview, and continue through the campaign builder to the final Preview & Send step.
On that step you will find the Test Email panel, where you enter the address that should receive the test copy.
3. Send a Test to Any Email Address
In the Test Email panel, type the address you want the test sent to in the Recipient email address field. This can be any valid email — it does not need to be an existing subscriber.
Field | Description | Example |
Recipient email address | Any valid email address that should receive the test copy. Subscribers and non-subscribers are both allowed. |
1. Enter the recipient email address.
2. Click Send Test Email.
Tip: Use a real inbox you can open, so you can check how the email actually renders — subject line, images, links, and layout — before sending the campaign for real.
4. Confirm the Test Was Sent
When the test is accepted, a green Success message appears confirming "Test email sent successfully." The test message should arrive in the recipient's inbox shortly after.
What you see | What it means |
Green "Success" message | The test was accepted and sent to the address you entered. |
Orange / red message | The test could not be sent — check the address and that your email sender is configured, then try again. |
Tip: If the test does not arrive within a few minutes, check the recipient's spam or junk folder before retrying.
5. Test Recipients Are Never Added as Subscribers
Sending a test is completely separate from your audience. The address you test to is not created, imported, or saved as a subscriber, and it will not receive your real campaign unless you add it as a subscriber yourself.
Important: There is one exception. If the address you enter already belongs to a subscriber who unsubscribed, the test is blocked to respect their opt-out. Addresses that are not subscribers are always allowed.
6. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the recipient have to be one of my subscribers? No. You can send a test to any valid email address. Previously the test was rejected if the address was not a subscriber — that restriction has been removed.
Q: Will sending a test add that person to my subscriber list? No. Test recipients are never saved as subscribers. You can confirm this by searching for the address on the Subscribers page after sending a test.
Q: Can I send a test to someone who unsubscribed? Only if they are not already a subscriber. If the address belongs to an existing subscriber who opted out, the test is blocked to honor their unsubscribe. Brand-new, non-subscriber addresses are always allowed.
Q: Some personalization looked blank in my test email. Why? Personalization tokens (such as a subscriber's first name) only have a value when the recipient is an actual subscriber. When you test to a non-subscriber address, those personalized fields render empty. To preview personalized content, send the test to a real subscriber's address.
Q: Do test emails count toward my plan's email usage? Yes. A test send uses your email allowance the same way a normal send does, so it is reflected in your usage totals.

2. Check the recipient's spam/junk folder; if you saw an error message instead, confirm your campaign email sender is set up.
