Why Some Insurance Payer Codes Cannot Be Added to Dazos (CRM)

Overview

Not all insurance payers can be added to the payer code list in Dazos. Payer codes must be EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) compliant and available through the clearinghouse. If a payer does not have an EDI code, it cannot be added to your instance, regardless of whether it is requested.

Why This Matters

When requesting new insurance payer codes, customers sometimes find that certain payers cannot be added. This is not a configuration limitation within Dazos itself — it is a clearinghouse requirement. Dazos relies on the clearinghouse to source and validate payer codes, and only EDI-compliant payers are available in that list.

Understanding this limitation upfront can save time when submitting payer code addition requests.

What Is an EDI Payer?

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is the standard format used for electronic insurance claims and transactions. An EDI payer is an insurance carrier that participates in electronic claims processing and has a registered payer ID within the clearinghouse network.

Payers that do not participate in EDI — such as some employer-sponsored plans or smaller regional carriers — do not have a payer ID in the clearinghouse and therefore cannot be added to Dazos.

How the Review Process Works

When you submit a request to add payer codes, the Dazos Support team reviews each payer against the clearinghouse list. If a payer is not found, support contacts the clearinghouse directly to verify whether it can be added. The outcome of that verification determines whether the payer code can be included.

  1. Customer submits a list of payer codes to be added via a support request.

  2. Dazos Support reviews each payer against the clearinghouse list.

  3. For payers not found in the list, support contacts the clearinghouse to verify feasibility.

  4. If the clearinghouse confirms the payer is non-EDI, it cannot be added.

  5. Support notifies the customer of which payers were added and which could not be added, with an explanation.

Examples of Non-EDI Payers

The following are examples of payers that have been confirmed as non-EDI and cannot be added to Dazos:

  • Holman

  • HMC

  • Chevron Beacon

  • Kern Legacy

⚠️ Note: This list is not exhaustive. Whether a specific payer is EDI-compliant must be verified on a case-by-case basis through the clearinghouse.

Tips & Notes

💡 Tip: Before submitting a payer code addition request, check with the insurance carrier directly to confirm whether they have an EDI payer ID. This can help set expectations before the request is reviewed.

Best Practice: When submitting a request, include the full payer name, any known payer ID, and the state or region if applicable. The more detail provided, the faster the clearinghouse verification can be completed.

⚠️ Note: Some payers may appear under a different name in the clearinghouse list. For example, a payer referred to internally by one name may be listed under a parent company or administrator name. Support will search for alternative matches during the review process.
